About Us

The Professional Woodworkers Guild of Upper New Jersey is made up of professional and amateur woodworkers who want to establish and preserve a standard of excellence in the craft by sharing information, resources, and techniques.

The Guild was established in 1987 by a group of professional woodworkers who wanted to give a home to woodworking techniques, tools, methods, and procedures – a home in which tradition can be kept alive and new techniques can enhance the quality of the Guild’s members’ workmanship.

logo2The Guild meets approximately monthly at the shop of one of our members. Food and drink is served, some Guild business is discussed, and the evening’s woodworking program is presented.  We usually hold nine regular meetings per year and in July we host a barbecue where all family members are welcome. In December, we host a holiday party for members and their partners. We also hold two auctions per year to raise funds for the Guild.

Vendors are also welcome to join the Guild.

The Guild believes that promoting woodworking instruction is very important and has donated materials and instructions to The Museum of Early Trades and Crafts in Madison, NJ.

The Woodworking Shows – 2017

The Guild once again participated in “The WoodWorking Shows – 2017”,  held at the Garden State Exhibit Center in Somerset, NJ. Over the three days,  we built and gave away almost 40 toolboxes and collected about 50 e-mail addresses! Thank you to all who volunteered.

Special Projects

mobile-farm-stand-4The Professional Woodworkers Guild of Upper New Jersey built this mobile farm stand for a Montclair farm group to take its local produce to seniors. The Guild built the stand using reclaimed lumber in the carpentry shop of Matthew Weiss, MCW Carpentry LLC, current Guild president. Other Guild members who contributed their time to help with the construction are James Scott of MCW Carpentry; Harold Katchen of HK Carpentry and Home Improvements; Frank Mangravite, Ph.D., of Public Works Management LLC; and Glen Guarino of Guarino Furniture Designs, an award-winning furniture designer and professor at Kean University.
